I am always on a quest to find the best pizza joints in Fort Myers.  In 2013, I wrote a Top Ten Pizza Restaurants in Fort Myers as we set out to come up with at least an introductory list of top spots based results of a fan poll on our Facebook Fan Page.

Recently a friend, knowing I’m a huge pizza connoisseur, recommended we try Blue Moon Pizza on College Parkway about five minutes from our agency here in south Fort Myers.  I just finished, and now sitting in my office pleasantly stuffed, and let me just say … it did not disappoint.  Blue Moon Pizza may now officially be my favorite pizza spot in Fort Myers.

I’m all about the SAUCE and the CRUST, and Blue Moon Pizza hits both of these out of the park.

The crust is thin, but not too thin.  Crunchy, but not too crunchy.  You can certainly tell that a lot of time, effort, and love went into the perfection of this light and airy dough.  I love the addition of a little salt and pepper around the edges of the crust that makes the last bite of pizza just as enjoyable as the first.

The sauce was flavorful with the right balance of herbs and spices.  The sauce was smooth, not chunky, but it didn’t feel childish or too sweet.

I’m a purist, and ordered the personal pepperoni pizza, which was enough to save a couple of pieces for lunch tomorrow as well.  My wife Karen ordered the “Classic” which included pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onions, mushrooms, and bell peppers.  The toppings were all fresh and delicious.   They even went to the extra effort of putting three different colors of bell peppers instead of just green.

The menu includes all kinds of specialty pizzas (from Greek, to White Pizza, Jerk, Margherita, BBQ Chicken, etc), or you can choose to build your own, selecting from a variety of their fresh and specialty toppings, which included Goat Cheese, Chorizo Sausage, and even a Cayenne-Candied Bacon.

The menu also included a huge selection of appetizers, salads, Italian subs, and their own creation called “flatwhiches.”  The menu also included a full martini menu, several craft beers, and signature cocktails.  I noticed they even have a “take-n-bake “option, and hope to give that a try in the coming weeks.

I’ve got to give Blue Moon Pizza TWO BIG THUMBS UP, and rate them as my current favorite pizza restaurant in all of Fort Myers.   Blue Moon Pizza has four locations in Georgia, but chose Fort Myers as their FIRST location in Florida (which I think is pretty darn cool), and is a welcome addition to our pizza pie assortments.
